FOUR SMALL STEPS TO BECOMING MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
SPRING HAS SPRUNG...

Spring has sprung, and everything outside is turning green with new life. This made us think about how we can also “go green” in terms of our environmental footprint. In recognition of Earth Day, we want to discuss a few ways that you can help protect the environment in your own home. You may not realize it or think about it very often, but your daily lifestyle habits such as how you dispose of unwanted items and even the products you use make a significant impact on our planet over time. We hope this article might bring some awareness to how you can become more environmentally friendly in your household.

1.  Purchase energy-efficient appliances.

As your appliances age and it comes time to replace them, do your research to make sure you are buying the ones that use less energy and water. They may be more expensive upfront, but will save you money on your power bills later. Plus, they are so much better for the environment.

Bonus Tip: An estimated 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills every single day. Help reduce this amount by investing in a reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water.

2. Donate clothes, accessories, or any unwanted items.

You might be surprised at how many clothes, books, and other paraphernalia end up in the garbage instead of in a donation bag. If your unwanted items are in decent condition, take the time to donate them rather than toss them in the trash. Our planet will thank you!

3. Use naturally scented or fragrance-free skin care and cosmetics.

Chemically perfumed consumer products are the main source of indoor air pollutants. Opt for products with natural fragrances derived from essential oils or fruits. These are safer for you and the environment.

Bonus Tip: This same logic goes for cleaning products. Thankfully, there are a wide range of organic cleaning products on the market. You can also make your own using items like vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice.

4. Switch to LED light bulbs.

This is such a simple, yet highly effective way to reduce your energy bill and environmental footprint as well. LED bulbs are said to use 75 percent less energy than incadndescent lighting, and also last 25 times longer! This switch is absolutely a no-brainer.
